XBMC (XBox Media Center) on other platforms

May 13, 2008 hawkin Leave a comment

XBMCXbox Media Center is one of the best media centers, and the best its all free! I have enjoyed it on my good ol’ Xbox, but now the PS3 has taken over, and the Xbox is not in use much more.

Another issue is that the Xbox does not have the power to play HD material. But there are good news for the future: The XBMC team has started to work on porting it over to other platforms. It started with a basic Windows port, then they started to work on a Linux port. But now there is actually a OSX beta port released!

What a perfect companion to a Mac Mini? :)

Google Calendar – Outlook sync tool

May 8, 2008 hawkin Leave a comment

Google Calndar SyncWell, at last I figured out a good solution to sync my iPhone with Google Calendar. Not optimal (that would be online), but at least it works quite easy through outlook:

Google Calendar Sync

You can also decide 2 ways sync, or 1 way witch ever way you want.

PS: Does (for now) only works with your main calendar. So any additional calendars you have it won’t sync.

deezer.com

DeezerDeezer.com, formerly known as Blogmusik.net, is a French free Internet-based music-on-demand service. Deezer offers on-demand ad-supported streaming in a similar manner to imeem.com, with a portion of the ad revenue being delivered to content partners.

I guess you all know about last.fm, pandora and the now RIP ezmo services. Well I now have discovered Deezer.com that is quite nice. You can search for your favorite artists and add your favourite albums. Suprinsingly _many_ songs are available and you can add them to different playlists you can play directly for the webpage. You also have the option to download the songs for a fee, but I just use it as my own playlist online. Hopefully they won’t get sued and closed down as ezmo, and get some better social networking as last.fm has. They should also get a last.fm connection so it could import your music fav.

Encode video for iPhone and iPod

May 5, 2008 hawkin Leave a comment

iTunes does not recode or transcode movies to the format you iPod og iTunes supports (for that you would need Quicktime Pro, but that doesnt work very well).

There has been quite a lot of different applications that could do this (Videora Ipod Converter, Nero and others), but mostly aren’t updated on the best codecs to use for the latest iPod (Classic and Touch) and iPhone.

XviD4PSP does. Even though the name would make you think otherwise; it supports xbox 360, ps3, psp,  iphone and ipod.

SMS on iPhone

April 23, 2008 hawkin Leave a comment

iPhone has a default SMS application, but it does not support forwarding or templates.
There are some 3rd party applications:

  • iSMS (templates, forwarding, supports 1.1.4 FW)
  • weTool (forwarding, sms and phone log in one app)
  • SMSD (templates, forwarding, some extra functions does not work out of the box on 1.1.4.)

I would say weTool is the weakest, since I would only want a good SMS util. SMSD was quite good, since one can name templates, but I like iSMS better, since it is more often updated and har smilies support plus some.

PS: To use SMSD, remember not to have any empty conversations. It crashes if there is any.
